Guardian’s "fest O lights 2009"

Sparkles, light everywhere on this occasion of Diwali, which is marked by memorable moments spent with family and friends. Unfortunately, there are people out somewhere, some who don’t have a family and few, who though have a family, are living their life in old age homes under the protection of God.

Guardians decided to celebrate this Diwali with inmates of one such orphanage in Bangalore. It was a one day event organized by Guardians on 17-Oct-2009 , with the kind cooperation of administrators of Sri Dwarakaamayee Vridhashram . By the end of the day, we all realized how true the saying is "Happiness is great only when shared".

This ashram is located at Sultanpet, Nandi Post, Chikballapur District,Bangalore. Nandi Village is a small village with a rich history. The Nandi Temple is over 1000 years old. Nandi Hill is the tallest peak in Bangalore at 1,478 meters above sea level. It was Tipu Sultan's summer retreat and palace and Tipu's fort walls still stand as testimony to history. We paid visit to the 200 year old cemetery built for British soldiers and paid our homage and saluted the rich Indian culture for preserving it with honour all these years.

Moments spent in the ashram, talking with the inmates, sharing their joy, Sorrows and just being there with them brought an overwhelming feeling in us. We all felt greater responsibility at our shoulders to bring such joys more often in their lives and many more like them. A festive lunch was arranged by us for everyone in the ashram and we all enjoyed the lunch together, which tasted like never before.

We really appreciate the people running this ashram for doing such a wonderful thing. We had a discussion with the administrators towards improving the living conditions of the inmates and contributed towards it.

We thank each and every Guardian for their participation and support. We welcome you all to be a part of our team – The Guardians and do your best towards social and ecological conservation. Watch this space for the NEXT event.
